Among the Living

Among the Living by Jordan Castillo Price is a homoerotic cop/psychic suspense story. Victor, Vic to those who know him, Bayne is not having a good day. To say the least, most of his days aren’t the best. For someone who sees and hears dead people all the time, life tends to get messy very easily. Vic is a member of the Paranormal Investigative Unit and he is now looking for a new partner. At his partner’s retirement party, Vic meets up with Detective Jacob Marks, the hottest commodity of his precinct and the hottest guy that Vic knows. For some reason, unknown to Vic, Mark starts up a conversation with Vic and he gets a feeling that Jacob is interested in more than just Vic’s work. Before anything can get interesting, Vic gets a call to get to work ASAP and as fate throws Vic and Jacob into a life and death struggle where noone knows who the perp is. Will Jacob and Vic unravel the mystery in time or will one or both of them end up as prey to the culprit?

Ms. Price has taken the subject of ESP to a whole new level. The idea of the police using psychics is not a new one, just very unusual. It was very interesting the way Vic didn’t like being a psychic, but could use it to his advantage when necessary. Vic reminds me of your average forgetful professor, but his unusual abilities make him very unique. I loved how Jacob could see beyond Vic’s bland surface to what he is really like. Ms. Price’s descriptions of the paranormal situations that Vic experienced made the book come alive for the reader. The erotic scene between Vic and Jacob was very compelling! I will be looking forward to reading the next book in the PsyCop Series.
