Persistence of Memory
Persistence of Memory by J.M. Snyder is a homoerotic futuristic romance.
Joah is running for his life from the compound that he was kept in. Joah’s only memory from before the compound is his name. Joah was taken from his home just like the rest of the people inhabiting the compound and had a microchip implanted in his head, they call it culling, which strips all their memories so they can be retrained into the ultimate soldier. Except, Joah managed to keep his name and he hopes that there is someone outside who knows him and can help him remember. Joah manages to escape and by sheer coincidence finds himself at a farm and the first person who sees him, Tobin, recognizes him. In spite of all the overwhelming odds, Tobin never gave up hope that he would see Joah again. Even knowing that Joah didn’t remember him, Tobin stays by his side and tells him stories from their earlier lives together. Tobin together with their friends Naphalie and Ash embark on the path to help Joah remember his past life, but will they find a way to overcome the effects of the implant or will it complete its ultimate program and take Joah permanently?
Ms. Snyder has created such a heart rendering story that will definitely bring tears of sorrow and joy to the reader. The thought of loosing ones memories would be frightening to anyone and Joah is no exception. He some how finds the strength to retain one small memory that leads him back to the ones that love him. Tobin is very strong and refuses to give up in spite of the odds and the description of how his smile lit up when he first found Joah again is breathtaking. The love between Tobin and Joah is exceptionally beautiful to behold. Persistence of Memory is a very compelling story that held me spellbound from the beginning and brought tears of joy to my eyes at the end. To Ms. Snyder- Thank you for writing a book that reminds us that love does conquer all!!
