Spies, Lies & Duct Tape
James Caesar is a tough secret agent for the government. His job is to find Samantha Stone, his lover, and bring her home. She’s been missing for two years, and when he finds her, they end up handcuffed and tied together, after being kidnapped. Samantha has no idea who she is. She suffers from amnesia, and she believes she is Merry Rodgers. She needs to try to figure out if she can believe what James is telling her, while she tries to stay alive, because suddenly people want her dead.
Spies, Lies & Duct Tape by Lyn Cash started really strong. I instantly fell for James, and I liked Merry. She was vulnerable but not to the point where she couldn’t stand up for herself. She spends half the story not knowing herself at all, and she is a very endearing character. As for James, he loves Samantha and after being away from her for two years he wants nothing more then to be with her again, but he does what he has to in order to keep her safe. He’s a caring character who tries hard to get Samantha to trust him again. The only thing that bothered me was how easily Merry’s character became Samantha; it was almost like there were two heroines. I liked Merry a lot and was sad to see her change as drastically as she did, I felt like a character was missing from the rest of the story. The action in the story is the perfect amount for a novella; Lyn Cash manages to make a short story feel like a full novel, without going overboard with details.
