Spaceport: Security

A Bio-engineered cyborg, Kala Decolteir, in her role as Security Chief, has devoted the past five years to maintaining a semblance of peace on the Spaceport Adana. At the urging of her underlings, she decides to take some much needed R&R time and let off some steam the old fashioned way, by getting laid. Jack Dancer is a space pirate that makes a stop at Adana. He’s delivering his cargo when Kala first lays eyes on him and decides he is just what she needs to relax. But there is more to Jack than meets the eye, and the events that occur after they meet are things that neither could predict.

Fast paced, well written short story in the new multi author Spaceport series, Security more than delivers. Shelby Morgen has a sly sense of humor that is very subtle and catches the reader unaware. There were several spots where I had to stop reading just to giggle. The two leads were strong, independent, and knew what they wanted. The attraction between the two was instant and combustible. The sensual scenes fanned the flames even higher between the two. The plot arcs were cohesive and meshed well. Judicious use of past history enabled the reader to develop more of an emotional attachment to the characters than is normally possible in a short story. I can only hope that the other offerings in the Spaceport series are as good.
