Jake Mathers life changed forever in 1881, when William Tolliver is sent to bring him from his life in Tomstone, AZ. back to his brother in Boston. It is there that William changes Jake into a vampire and leaves him to find his own path. Fast forward to 2281 and we find Jake running an old west type ranch on the planet Ephesia. It is here at Tombstone Ranch that Jake hires a new employee, Les, and finds that there are still things in this world that can take a centuries old vampire by surprise.

Tombstone Ranch just goes to show you that as much as things change they also still stay the same. Beginning in the past and then jumping 400 years in the future, Shayne Carmichael, shows that old prejudices are still around no matter how advanced the culture becomes. He does a beautiful job of demonstrating how even with all the conveniences available in the future that man can still find himself yearning for the simpler life to be found on a ranch. Jake was well developed as a man who has lived hundreds of years and has isolated himself from emotional attachments in order to survive. Les is the perfect foil as a man who has the curiosity to dig and find out Jake’s secrets and then accept them. The emotional connection between the two was almost instantaneous and made the sexual tension escalate to scalding hot levels.
