The Island Off Stony Point
After her CEO sister foolishly invests money in a company falls into trouble, Malena knows she must find a way to help her sister. The only possible solution she sees is a kidnapping. She devises a plan to kidnap three monks but never anticipated any difficulties. Officer Jessica Harding was out patrolling when she received the call about some killings at the monastery. It appears a small group of men had entered the monastery wounding two monks and killing another then taking three as hostage. The basilica’s altar tabernacle is also stolen. When Jessica arrives, the intruders are firing shots, and Jessica barely escapes injury. Most of the time she spends working as a regular officer and other times doing difficult tasks that demands detective work. With the kidnapping of the monk and missing altar tabernacle, she is placed on the case. Before she knows what hits her, Robert Dexter, with the FBI, has also been flown in to help investigate the case. At first they get off on the wrong track, but Jessica proves she can stand on her own two feet. In a matter of time, they develop a budding friendship. Jessica believes anyone who kidnaps monks or, a Father of the cloth, are the poorest excuses for human beings. As she and Rob set out to find Malena and bring the monks back to safety, she never imagined going up against another woman as hardcore as herself.
The Island Off Stony Point certainly carries the reader into the criminal mind that don’t seem to care about the life of others. Malena reminded me of an everyday felon who has no respect for anyone, only her sister is important to her. I would hate to come across her in broad daylight, let alone a dark alley. She is more than greedy. I really admired Jessica and her strength throughout the whole ordeal. She is unstoppable, and when Rob places his hand on her shoulder, my heart just melted. Regis Schilken pens a suspenseful story that engages the reader. I like how he pits Jessica against Malena. He even blends a little romance in the air with Jessica and Rob, making the story even more interesting, and the ending made the book even more worth reading.
