What Happens in Vegas
Sheryl Garland had only gone to Vegas for her best friends wedding, but when she woke the next day with a pounding headache, she was surprised to find a man in her bed. As the youngest female sheriff ever in Grant, she hurries back home before any gossip can spread. The town had a penchant for gossip, and this was one scenario she didn’t need broadcasted, especially when she had no memory of what happened after that pre-wedding toast. Sheryl had worked hard to get her degree in criminal justice, attending the police academy, and being the best marksman in three counties, and she didn’t need the town spreading gossip on her. When A.J. Sutter arrives, professing to be her husband, it doesn’t take long for the fire to spread. A.J. runs several ranches in Tyler, Texas, but when he finds his wife gone after their wedding, he needs answers. Sheryl is completely clueless to the events after having more than just one drink. Before she can blink, the whole town knows she is married, and her mother is headed to meet the groom. She and A.J. discuss the marriage trying to figure out what they really need to do. While Sheryl gives the turn of events some thoughts, A.J. would like to date his wife. Can they work out their situation or will their accidental marriage turn into a quick divorce?
What Happens in Vegas is quality writing at its best with tight dialogue that keeps the reader glued to every page. I thought it was hilarious when Sheryl is talking to her mother about the news leaking out. I could just visualize her whole expression in this page-turning read. A.J. swoons with charisma that just floats from the pages. I love his character, his demure and everything about him. He and Sheryl fit together beautifully even though she has trouble figuring out the situation. I can understand Sheryl wishing to be bold in her actions, especially living in a gossip town. The patience that A.J. exhibits, as well as his honesty, is wonderful. Dayne Gearner has composed an outstanding read with jubilant characters that bring joy to the reader in so many ways! Be sure to grab this one.
