Cover Me

Sunny Montgomery is a single mom who is dealt one awful blow after another. She loses her job, car, health insurance and almost all of the rest of her assets, leaving her with little recourse but to devise a plan to care for her young daughter. Libbie has health issues and Sunny knows they need health insurance if they are to survive. Desperate times call for desperate measures so Sunny marries her landlord, Ben Hart, in order to have the health insurance that will keep Libbie well. It is an arrangement that seems to suit all three of them. That is, until Sunny finds herself falling for Ben. It wouldn’t be a problem except that she is pretty certain Ben is gay. It is, Sunny knows, just another calamity to befall her already mixed up life.

Cover Me deals with some serious issues in a mostly uplifting manner. Sunny could be any single mom. She has a sweetie who has needs but there are very few options open to her that will allow her to fulfill Libbie’s needs. Sunny does what so many mothers do: she sacrifices her happiness for that of her child. In this case, there is a happy ending but Ben and Sunny have to work—hard—to find it. Ben is a great hero, coming in with his is-he-or-isn’t-he swagger to rescue both damsels in distress. Libbie and her Spongebob Squarepants obsession made me laugh out loud! Cover Me is a candid look at romance and life. It shows that even when things look dim there is a bright side—if you are willing to look for it. Sharona Nelson has a winner with Cover Me!
