Viktor has been in space entirely too long. As a vampire he needs blood and savage sex to contain the beast he holds, but when he has denied himself too long, he’s now in the grip of the Blood Burning and is a danger to the entire ship. Locked in his quarters he has become almost wholly savage. When Diamond enters, he can no longer hold back the beast and falls upon her with dangerous intent. But her selflessness gets through to him and a tentative bond is formed.

Ranier cannot believe that Diamond would sacrifice herself for Viktor. Even though Viktor has been by his side for years, he still cannot fathom her willingness to help him at the cost of her health. When they bond Ranier cannot help but feel left out, but is he?

The continuing saga of Black Star is spun out in Black Star: Diamond. I highly suggest reading the previous books as there is a continuing story arc that connects them all.

Marteeka Karland brings us back into a world where not only space travel is possible, but aliens are the norm. I have followed this series since its inception and will continue to grab up each book that follows. The richness of the world combined with the three-dimensional feel of the characters is a testament to Ms. Karland’s world-building ability. Viktor, Ranier, and Diamond were a fantastic cast to read about, and I absolutely cannot wait to see what The Hand of God is up to.
