Zoey Redbird has found herself in a true predicament in Chosen, the third installment in the House of Night series. Not only is she faced with powers granted her by Nyx, the Goddess of the Night, but she’s facing normal teen angst and seriously abnormal issues with her best friend, now dead—yet not. Trying to do the right thing when you aren’t exactly sure what it is, can be dreadfully difficult, especially when you’re Zoey, chosen of Nyx.

Once again I was blown away by the realism in this series. Not only do P.C. and Kristin Cast write a fantastic young adult novel that captures teen angst perfectly, they also grab you by the throat, sit you down and make you believe in things that go bump in the night. Zoey has to deal with some doozies this time around and what I really enjoyed was the fact that she screws up good. Not in a malicious way, but in an ‘I’m supposed to be the one saving everyone and dealing with everything alone’ way. The Casts do a wonderful job of reminding you of the worth of friends and family, no matter what. With what happened to Zoey in Chosen, I can only hope that the Casts are merciful next time around, you can’t help but love her.
