Sunfire

There is a myth passed down through the ages about a mythical bird called the phoenix who upon its death goes up in flame and is reborn again. The thing is sometimes myths are based in reality and this is one of those instances.

Aidan, the Phoenix and member of the Pure Wildfire, a hot rock band, agreed to work on one song for a charity album for their manager, John Westfall. Aidan never wanted the power he has as the Phoenix because it made him feel different from the others of his kind. Only in his music does he feel connected, but this all changes when he meets John’s older daughter Corinne. In Corrine, Aidan feels a kinship and spark that he has never felt before in his life. Corinne’s music and her beauty call to him on his most elemental levels. Corrine has always been fascinated by Aidan’s public figure, but she is immediately infatuated by his true personality. When Corrine hears Aidan play his guitar she doesn't understand what her music lacks until Aidan helps her see that inside herself is wonderful music waiting to be set free. Together they find a passion not only for music, but for each other that is stronger than anything they have ever felt. Unfortunately, Corrine is tied to her father with bonds that seem impossible to break. Will Corrine and Aidan find a way to break Corrine free before it is too late?

Ms. Connolly has created an incredible story that ensnares the reader in from the very beginning. I loved how the myth of the Phoenix is used as a pivotal point around which the story is woven. Aidan is seen as both a very strong and lonely man in spite of everything he has: fame, fortune and incredible powers. This reminds us that without love in your life everything else is just window dressing. The love that developed between Corrine and Aidan was intense and quite beautiful. The descriptive way in which the transformation scenes were written brought them to life for the reader. I for one hope that there will be future books about the other members of Pure Wildfire. Thanks go to Ms. Connolly for an incredible story.
