Rian has been chosen as the Vessel, a breeder, for the Veletari. They help protect her and her village from the night demons, the Cimmerion. When she is kidnapped from her home by the Cimmerion king, Luxian, she quickly learns that what she knows about the two races is far from truth. Now Rian is faced with confusing feelings for Luxian, the person she thought was her enemy, and trying to come to deal with the fact that what she believed was wrong.

Lure of the Cimmerion is a good story about two people falling in love with their enemies. I enjoyed the plot and I liked learning about the world they live in. Unfortunately, I didn’t like the heroine as much as I was hoping I would. Her reactions and feelings seemed to change too quickly to be believed, and I felt the emotions between her and Luxian were rushed. It left their romance feeling forced. They both have times of being blinded by what they think is true, and when they could easily set things right, they don’t. I think my favorite thing about this story was Luxian’s brother, Virk. He’s funny and charming, and the quick peek we get of his heroine makes me want to read their story. Toni L. Meilleur has written an interesting world, and I’d like to see what else she could do with it.
