My Valentine

Rosalyn Sue Mitchell is talented at bringing love and pleasure to others. She is known as Cupid, delivering valentines for others as part of her job of delivery girl for The New England Valentine Factory. Her job takes her to meet all sorts of unusual people. Her determination to do the best job she can do makes Rosalyn the perfect Cupid. She cries when expensive baskets are refused. She frets when crowded train stations pose obstacles. But she does all she can to make sure her valentines are delivered. She has even proposed for someone she has never met, all in the line of doing a good job. When Rosalyn meets Christian Garrett her world becomes even more interesting. A heirloom necklace, secrets and Greyhounds invade her already interesting life. She wonders if the attraction she feels for the handsome Christian Garrett is the sort of romance she has been wishing would come into her life.

My Valentine is absolutely wonderful! The way the author paints the surroundings makes the 1800s come to life. I especially liked the scenes at the train station and in the barroom because the details were so vivid I felt like I could see everything. The expressions, like “hogwash” and a slew of others, made this story feel accurate. The evolving romance between Rosalyn and Garrett is sensual. Their chemistry is apparent. Rosalyn may be a character from over a hundred years ago but she is a modern woman in that she knows her own mind. She doesn’t let Garrett get anything over on her and that makes her very likeable. I liked every bit of My Valentine by Sheridon Smythe. I’ll plan to read it again next February!
