The Darkest Night
Ashlynn Darrow is a tortured soul. She hears the voices of the past and nothing can shut them out for long. After hearing of men that have supernatural powers she rushes off to try and see if they can help her with her curse. But in her rush to find a cure she finds so much more. Maddox is one of the men that Ashlynn meets. Ashlynn thinks that her gift is a curse, but when she meets Maddox, she realizes that it could be much worse. For Maddox is truly cursed by the Gods, and the price he pays every night is horrendous. Can they find solace with each other or will they be doomed to live out their tortured existence?
Amazing! Stupendous! Extraordinary! Gena Showalter has done it again. The Darkest Night is the fabulous start of an edgy, thrilling series. Ms. Showalter’s adroit handling of a multi focal plot leaves the reader feeling bereft when the last page is turned. An intriguing twist on the fable of Pandora’s Box The Darkest Night is filled with characters destined to capture even the most jaded readers’ heart. Dark and tortured, Maddox is cursed to die a painful death every night and rise again in the morning knowing that the cycle will be repeated for eternity, and if that wasn’t bad enough, he is also possessed of the demon Violence for Pandora’s Box. Ashlynn is a contradiction of terms. Innocent and naïve but still headstrong and courageous, she is not one to fade into the background and let the hero rescue her. The attraction between the two is made that much stronger by the adversity that affects them. I can’t recommend this book enough. An exceptional novel from an extraordinary author, The Darkest Night is one of 2008’s must reads for any paranormal fan.
