Too Close to the Sun
Javier “Java” Tomas has had a rough year filled with loss. He’s lost a job he loves, the man he loved and the use of one of his legs. Depressed and having no source of support from a loved one has left him with little hope for a happily ever after. Java observes a crazy man named Raine preparing to jump off of a building. Bad leg and all he goes to assist the man in hopes of talking him down. As Java talks to Raine he discovers the young man is in need of assistance but not saving.
Too Close to the Sun is part of the Everyday Spectres series.
It is a story of love, hope, dreams and survival. My heart went out to Java. He is a man who had a noble profession and genuinely loved to help people. To have his life altered so quickly and painfully was sad. I could almost feel his depression as if it was my own. Java’s desire is to have one person love him completely and accept all his scars from battling life. Raine is a beautiful spirit inside and out. I felt his happiness when he found a confidant, friend and lover in Java. Raine accepted Java knowing that his injured spirit may not be able to help him regain what he has lost. Their belief and acceptance of one another only made Raine and Java love each other more. Willa Okati has delivered another fantastic story. Being inside of Java’s thoughts and watching him work through his pain to rediscover who he is as a man was moving. He truly was a Phoenix rising from the ash of despair. Too Close to the Sun is a story you don’t want to miss.
