Dark Needs at Night’s Edge

Conrad Wroth is a vampire warlord and a highly paid assassin; his brothers have been searching for hundreds of years and have finally found him in the grips of insanity. Trying to cure him they take him to Elancourt, an abandoned plantation outside New Orleans. Chained and manacled, Conrad keeps seeing a raven-tressed beauty – not sure if it is one of his usual hallucinations or reality, Conrad keeps silent.

Néomi Laress was violently murdered on the evening of her greatest success. A burlesque dancer turned prima ballerina, Néomi had triumphed over the staid views of her time period and become a successful woman without a man. She had broken up her relationship with her latest beau and that proved to be her downfall. His mind snapped, and he killed her and himself at the foot of the stairs in her gorgeous new home, Elancourt. Now, eighty years later, the Wroth brothers have installed a monster in her home. But, can this monster see her when others have not been able to?

Kresley Cole has delivered yet another fabulous tale in her Immortals After Dark series. Both Conrad and Néomi were strong characters that refused to back down, even when it meant getting hurt. Conrad was a truly amazing man/vampire in that he had a huge capacity for forgiveness. I was happy to see the third Wroth son paired off. You do get to see the other pairs from the previous books so I would highly recommend reading them in order, but it’s not entirely needed. Just reads better that way. Néomi was another person that was a delight to read, and she was shocking in her views for her era. It made her all the more fun to read about. I can only wait impatiently for the next in the series. Thanks for a fantastic read.
