Snowbound: Lionsblood

Earth has turned its back on the humans that used to inhabit it in droves, now, the surface is frigid, rising to 100 degrees below zero in the summer and plummeting to 150 degrees below zero in the winter. The entire planet’s ecosystem has been rearranged with Lionsbloods at the top. Now the Lionsbloods and the Breeds allow humanity to exist at their whim.

Marie is a human on this unforgiving planet, a human with a Lionsblood friend, Klark that she longs to have as more. When she is stranded on the surface and must call him, it’s possible she may get her wish.

When has cold ever been so danged hot? Marteeka Karland has yet again crafted a world that you can jump into with both feet, no prepping at all. You were able to see life at a glimpse through this one interaction between Klark and Marie, and what an ‘interaction’ it was. With her ability to write a stimulating and engaging short story, Marteeka Karland is definitely one of my very favorite authors. To be plunged into a fully realized world without the sometimes tedious back-story and yet still feel like it’s ‘real’ is a rush that I really enjoy. Thanks for the great release from reality.
