Wicked Game

WMMP – A radio station in desperate need of a marketing plan.
Ciara Griffin- An ex-con artist in need of a new, legal start.

Mix these two elements with a bit of the paranormal and WVMP, the Lifeblood of Rock 'n' Roll, is born. An all vampire-DJ team bound to their time periods by the music they play is brought out of the coffin and into the spotlight. Why worry – the greatest lie is often the truth. Who’s going to believe that these quirky people are truly the undead? When the other vampires in the area find the new campaign a trivialization of their existence – they fight back viciously, and Ciara is forced to choose between the long con and the vampires she’s begun to care for. Can Ciara take back her life?

Jeri Smith-Ready takes vampires and shakes up their mythology with Wicked Game. Recreating a myth is no small task, and Ms. Smith-Ready does an amazing job of making her vampires both believable and new. Ciara is a delightful character that you like from the very start. Even though you know she’s not a really good, ‘good guy’ you love her because of her faults not in spite of them. However, to me, the stars of the book were the vamp-DJs. I loved Regina, the punk gal, Monroe the blues hound, Shane, the sad-eyed grunge rocker, and the rest of the gang, Noah, Spencer, and Jim. There are OODLES of stories just waiting to be told within the walls of WVMP, and I can only hope that Ms. Smith-Ready gives us more of them.
