His For The Taking

Lord Darius Cantwell is not the same man he was before the war. He can’t get over the sixteen months of the smell of gunpowder, corpses, and the fetid reek of blood on the battlefield. He should have never come to the Duchess of Tewsbury’s ball. How was he going to get into the social swing of things again when all he can think of is the war and the loss of his good friend Jamie McFarlane? Lady Tewsbury gets his attention and tells him to come and give her a kiss of welcome. While doing this he gets a whiff of lilacs which reminds him of the easier, gentle days of summer from his youth. Darius’ attention is taken from Lady Tewsbury when the most beautiful woman walks into the ballroom. Darius’ body reacts to this woman like no other. Then his world is crushed when he finds out her name. Now he must find the truth and the truth starts with her.

Claire McFarlane has come to the city to find her missing husband. She is penniless and under all the debts her husband Jamie McFarlane left her with when he disappeared. Claire is wearing the only thing her mother left her; a garnet necklace that is worthless but means the world to her, even though others believers it is a ruby. She goes to Lady Tewsbury’s ball in hopes of finding Jamie. What she finds instead is the one man that sets her body aflame.
And that man believes she is a liar and a whore. Will Claire make Darius see the truth?
