Sloane Burbank, a former FBI special agent before her hand was severely damaged during a case, now does consulting work and security seminars. When the parents of one of Sloane’s childhood friends want to hire her to find out what happened to their daughter, she agrees to help. Penny disappeared without a trace about a year ago, and her parents want closure. Sloane discovers that the FBI agent of record is her old lover Derek Parker. Derek however now works for another department and isn’t at all thrilled to be forced to work on the old case or with Sloane. Derek is heavily involved in a case involving murdered Asian prostitutes, and the murders are causing tremendous pressure in Chinatown that could explode into an all out war there. Then a connection is found between Derek’s other cases and the case Sloane is working on, and the clues point to someone tied to Sloane. Now Sloane and Derek know they are chasing a serial killer and his crimes are escalating. Can Derek and Sloane get past their history and solve this case before more people die?

If you love heart pumping, non-stop action, with a sly, intelligent, yet vicious criminal challenging the best of our FBI agents, then you will love Twisted by Andrea Kane. Ms. Kane’s richly developed characters are strong, intelligent, stubborn, determined, and likeable. The relationship between Sloane and Derek is intense and explosive. At the same time, the story line is full of twisted ugly crime scenes and tense emotional moments for all the characters trying their best to catch a mad man. Throughout the story, the reader is teased with sections of thought from the mad man giving hints to what his ultimate plans and goals are. I was almost to the end of the story before I started suspecting who the mad man was. I loved that Ms. Kane was able to keep me enthralled in the story and in suspense for the whole book. The back cover of the book hints that this story is the first of a new series, and I can hardly wait for the next installment. This is one of the best thrillers I have read in a long time. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves an action packed romantic thriller!
