Dead On
Lieutenant Terry Ross was ready to leave the sweltering police department building for the comfort of the air conditioned cafeteria next door when two elderly women came to his desk wanting to report the murder of their next door neighbor Molly Proctor. After getting the details of their report, Terry determined that there wasn’t anything he could actually do since the ladies only witnessed Molly’s husband striking her and not an actual murder. After the ladies left, Terry was getting his partner up to speed on what was reported when his partner informed him that the little old ladies that made the report were the daughters of the town’s former civic leader and mayor so Terry decides that it might be in the best interest of his career to pay a visit to the Proctor household.
After his visit to Paul Proctor, Terry knew that he didn’t like Paul at all and that something had happened in that house but wouldn’t know more until the forensics team came in to examine the blood spots they found. As for now he had a case that involved spousal abuse and a missing Molly Proctor with all the circumstantial evidence pointing to her husband killing her. Unbeknownst to him, this case was about to turn into a political mess with more questions than answers and a sexy woman that makes him forget his vow.
Dead On by Elizabeth Stewart is an intriguing tale of lies, deception, and passion that left me eagerly awaiting the conclusion.
Terry was an interesting character and his decisions usually left me wondering what he was thinking and would be doing next. There were also lots of secondary characters that added to the mysterious ambience of this story such as Terry’s wife Phyllis who knows this case is different by the way it’s affecting her husband, Molly’s friend Mallory who knows more than she’s saying and who Terry can’t stop thinking about, the unforgettable Mamie and Genevieve who first reported the murder and last but not least Paul Proctor, the man who makes it so easy to hate him.
I really enjoyed this story but for me personally, there was one hitch and that was Terry’s interactions with Mallory that left me disappointed and angry but even saying that I am looking forward to more stories from Ms. Stewart. 4 Angels
