Night Hunter

Every twenty-five years a beast emerges from the earth to feed and mate before the Huntsman tracks him down and kills him. The beast that has just emerged is known as Cadamus and will kill at least one human every night until he mates or is killed.

When Dr. Gillian Sayers sees a news broadcast about an old woman killed in the graveyard she knows that the monster that she witnessed killing her mother is back and is determined to prove his existence and get her father released from prison. She knows that a picture or video of the beast will be her best bet and after getting a call from the news station wanting to interview her about her mother’s murder, she decides that the cameraman Nick would be the perfect man for the job.

Nick Blackwater has spent a lot of time researching Dr. Gillian and the books she has written on winged beasts that terrorize downtown Phoenix, Arizona every 25 years and after meeting her for the first time he knows that she has seen one just as he did as a child. Nick is a Huntsman and his job is to track down and kill Cadamus before he can mate and kill any more people. He had intended to do it alone and without involving Jillian anymore than the interview but when she offers to help him in order to get her own retribution, it’s an offer that he can’t turn down.

Night Hunter by Cathy McDavid is an adrenaline pumping ride from beginning to end. The background to this story is so well detailed that you could clearly see the Arizona town that was described along with the creature that wrecked havoc upon it. Gillian is a strong character that manages to hold her own with only a few blunders that work in her favor. Nick is a patient teacher that puts his life on the line to ensure the future of humankind.

Ms. McDavid has created a mystical tale that was a delight to read and in a war of good and evil, Nick is the guy I’d want fighting for me. This is a book that you won’t want to miss!
