True North
True North by Bethany Brown and Ashlyn Kane is a contemporary homoerotic romance.

Jack is always having accidents causing him to go to the local doctor’s office to get patched up. Unfortunately for him, Aunt Bella works there and never lets him get away without giving him a piece of her mind about his frequent visits. Today, unknown to Jackson, there is a new doctor in the town who will be seeing Jackson for his appointment. Dr. Jillian Piet is not only a good doctor, but the most handsome young thing that Jack has seen in a long time. Living in the middle of nowhere in Canada does have its drawbacks. Even doped up on pain meds for this stitches, Jack notices everything that does, but he doesn’t realize that the intense interest goes both ways. Julian’s professional persona is in direct odds with his desire to get to Jack better. After getting a ride home with Julian and his sister Roz, Jack finds himself calling on Julian to ask for help. Julian and Jack end up having breakfast together where neither knows quite how to react to the other leaving them questioning their feelings. Will Jack and Julian ever get together? Will Jack finally overcome his fear of coming out and take his chances with love?

Ms. Brown and Ms. Kane have created a fun and fascinating story about two men who, if they can overcome their fears, may find a love for all times. It is wonderful to read a story about small town life that, in reality, is a combination of quaint life and intrigue. Small towns tend to keep to traditional beliefs, but Jack and Julian’s town seems to be accepting of differences, to their surprise. The medical scenes are very descriptive and true to life. The characters take of a life of their own as they go through the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Watching Julian and Jack slowly work through their feelings as their love grows is wonderful to read. Thanks go to Ms. Brown and Ms. Kane for an incredible story.
