Temple of Luna 1: Savage Possession
Rais is heir to the throne and is expected to take a mate soon. His service as a warrior is coming to an end, but he is still in dire need of relief from one of the Savage Temple’s priestesses. While debating on which priestess to take, Avani enters the room, and his body chooses for him. Avani will be his.
Avani is a novice at the Temple, training to become a priestess. The priestesses of the Temple are trained to soothe warriors using their bodies and magic. Avani is past the normal age of those who have completed their training and she fears that she may never become a priestess. When she sees Rais, she wants him more now than when she was a teenager, but as a novice, she is forbidden to have contact with a warrior. She is surprised and aroused to learn that Rais visited the high priestess to request her services. Rais is all she ever wanted, except for love from her mate. Rais asks her to wait for him, but Avani hesitates, because she knows that he will never love her and she probably won’t be enough to hold the king’s attention for long.
Savage Possession is a short, fast paced and very erotic book. Considering the length of the book, the plot and character development is satisfying. However, I can’t help but wish that it were longer. The futuristic world of a werewolf society was intriguing and I would have loved to read more about it. I felt like I was dropped right into the middle of things and needed to know about the society history and culture. That isn’t to say that I was confused and not sure of what was going on. Moira Rogers gives just enough information to avoid confusion; and just enough to leave me wanting much more.
I really like Avani. Her body is submissive, as it should be as a novice, but she has attitude behind the little bit of submissiveness. She comes from a prominent family and has been raised to be strong and to go after what she wants; and she is just a little spoiled.
Rais is the typical strong and dominant hero. He is the prince and is about to take over as king. As such, he isn’t required or expected to have to woo women. Instead, they drop at his feet. That is, all of them except the one he wants. In a show of tenderness and concern, he agrees to a courtship of Avani.
Moira Rogers has written another wonderful story, which is the beginning of a series. I just can’t wait to read the next books in this series, so I can soak up as much of this world as I can.
