Rand is the administrator in charge of his planet, and the flesh-fruit it harvests. Under law, you need to be fully human to hold this position, and Rand has a secret. He has been bitten by one of the shadow-snakes, and he has changed. He will do whatever he must to stay in charge and to take care of his workers, even if that means using new abilities against Agent Niamh Sullivan. What he doesn't expect is his feelings towards her, and her reaction to his venom. Niamh knows she must report her findings, but the more the venom flows through her veins and the more time she spends with Rand, she finds her job that much harder to do.

I really enjoyed this story, and my only regret is that it wasn't longer. Rand is definitely not the typical hero, and I wasn't sure how well I would like a hero who was part snake. Kim Knox has done a really good job at making snakes sexy. Rand is a good person, and he only wants to protect his people. Since taking over the planet, no one has died, and he doesn't want that to change. Even though he does some bad things, it is impossible to not like him. The chemistry between Niamh and Rand is sizzling. Rand's venom happens to be an aphrodisiac, and when these two finally succumb, it is everything I was hoping it would be. Aside from good characters, the world that Kim Knox has created is captivating. I wanted to learn more about the planets, the government, and the rest of the people. Flesh and Shadows is a sexy sci fi that will leave you wanting much more.
