Car Wash
Kevin Flaherty is having a really bad day, week, month, year. He's been laid off from his office job, he's lost his motorcycle, his phone, and now he's behind on his rent. The only thing he has going for him is the job he found at the local car wash. But even that is barely keeping him afloat and he is too embarrassed to tell his friends what's going on.
Then when he doesn't think it could get worse an old crush pulls into the lot driving a Maserati. When Kevin was fifteen he made a pass at his secret crush, his best friend Danny's older brother. A pass that the twenty-one year old rejected.
Michael instantly recognizes the gorgeous man that Kevin has become in the past nine years and is eager to take him out. The attraction is mutual but Kevin is no longer fifteen and Michael's take charge, bossy attitude soon causes problems. After a fight the two call it quits. But can they overcome their differences or will this just be one more thing that doesn't come out in the wash?
This was a sweet little story with just enough sensual scenes to make it close to perfect. Kevin is having a really hard time in his life right now and I can certainly commiserate. But he still is trying to make the best of things and striving to make it. When Michael enters the picture I was a bit concerned with the fact that he was so obviously well to do and Kevin wasn't. But the author handled it quite well, addressing everything that ran through my head when the two first reconnected. I didn't want this to be the story of a kept man. I wanted a love story and that is certainly what I got. I love Shawn Lane and was thrilled to see that she brought Charlie and Noah from Pulling Away back onto the scene. It was brief enough to let the focus of the story be on Kevin and Michael but still allowed fans to get a glimpse of how things were in their lives now. Ms. Lane never fails to please me and Car Wash is another well placed feather in her writing cap.
