Alzheimer's is slowly robbing David Delaney's father of his precious memories, and David of his personal life. David is openly gay, and the disease draws his father's bigoted views closer to the surface, which makes for tense moment in their household. David's father wanders off one day and he knows it's time to seek assistance. David goes to the local police department to report his missing father and gets more than help locating his dad. He meets Detective Travis Hart, a man who reminds him of what he is missing in life.

Travis is living in his own glass house and has no room to throw stones at David's situation. Their attraction is instantaneous, and Travis can't help but hope David will find the strength to remain as part of his life. He knows relationships with policeman come with serious repercussions, but over time David proves he's made of sterner stuff than most.

Travis makes David giddy as a teenager thanks to his caring and sincerity. It doesn't take long before the two men discover how intone they are with one another. Meanwhile, the rapid deterioration of the father's health is closer at hand than anyone anticipates. Will Travis and David get to see their happily-ever-after, or is fate stepping in to deter them permanently?

Lynn Lorenz's David's Dilemma is a compelling story about love, friendship, and the devastating effects of Alzheimer's. David is your typical man who wants the best for his father. He remembers the man who took care of him as a child and refuses to do less in return. I had so much respect for him at this point of the story. He put his father first and decided to forego a personal life. That purely selfless act was overwhelmingly genuine and showed me what he would be willing to give to his significant other. Travis has gained the respect of his fellow detectives and supervisor through his superb work ethics and ability to keep his sexual orientation a separate entity. He's fortunate to escape the hatred and ridicule that normally accompanies working in the police force and being openly gay. David and Travis' attraction, while instantaneous, gains momentum through their interaction and begins to flow effortlessly. This point has a great deal of significance for me because nothing was forced, and I watched their bond strengthen over time. There wasn't anything I disliked about this story except seeing it come to an end. Each perfectly balanced element, from the plot and setting, to the cast of characters blended to create a wonderfully written story.
