To Hate and To Hold
Jamie McHale was a vampire prince. But then in a single instance that all changed, his parents were murdered in a brutal attack and now Prince Jamie is no more. Now Ethan Connor is prince, and Jamie is convinced that Ethan’s family had something to do with the deaths of his parents. It doesn’t help that Ethan is an arrogant man who seems to never let Jamie forget that he is now the prince. But one night that all changes, a magic spell gone awry has forced the men into a bonding that they cannot escape from; they are now bound in marriage, at least until it’s safe to break the spell. Can the two men cooperate long enough to survive the spell or will their hatred and stubbornness be the death of them both?
This is the first book I’ve read by Dakota Rebel, and I quite liked it. I would have liked to have had a bit more background on Jamie’s story, but it wasn’t necessary to my enjoyment of this one. The hate that Jamie feels towards Ethan was palpable as was the passion that Ethan evoked in Jamie as well. Hate and love are close cousins, and it was never more apparent than in this story. I thought that the two men had a fabulous connection if they could just get past their own preconceived notions of what the truth really was. Since the story was told from Jamie’s viewpoint, we never got a feel as to what Ethan’s true feelings were towards Jamie. In the beginning I was sure that both men felt contempt and hate, but throughout the story it became more apparent that Jamie’s view was skewed and maybe Ethan’s actions weren’t what they always appeared to the reader to be. I look forward to reading more from Dakota Rebel and wouldn’t mind revisiting this world.
