Through the Closet Door
Gregory seems to have the life that most people want, he has all the trappings of a great life but he is still miserable. Gregory has a secret and it’s a big one. The only outlet he has is to chronicle his private thoughts in a journal. When Gregory’s wife begins to pressure him to start a family, Gregory must face the realization that his secret has grown too large to remain in the closet of his thoughts.

Through the Closet Door is a tender, poignant, and tragic story that highlights how one decision can affect multiple people’s lives. Granted Gregory’s decision is a major one, it shades every aspect of his life. He seemingly has it all, a good job, a lovely wife, and good looks. But in reality Gregory is barely hanging on by a thread. His secret is one that has far reaching ramifications not only to himself but to all around him. The quiet desperation with which Mr. Reed has drawn Gregory makes this story especially good. The depth of emotion that he conveys with a simple turn of phrase is at times genius. I felt the horror that Gregory felt and the fear that he faced in trying to deal with a lie that has grown out of control. The use of his journal to allow a closer glimpse into Gregory and his mind was an excellent choice and advanced the plot. The ending of the story was more of a beginning for the next chapter in Gregory’s story and I would love to visit him again sometime.
