Free Falling
Special Agent Rainie McClain knows getting serious with anyone in the bureau is a no-no, but she and Captain Roc Branson have been secretly married for almost three years. Living in separate apartments, they try to keep their life a hush-hush, even though she feels a few may already suspect the truth. Of late, she has been seeing someone from a distance she feels is her long-lost brother, Justin. Roc doesn’t want her to go out alone because it could be dangerous, and he doesn’t wish to lose her. One night Rainie goes out on her own, only to learn she is being stalked. When she calls in for backup to take the suspect away, she isn’t even allowed to interrogate him. Things do not seem to be right in their perspective, and Roc, especially, wants her to leave matters alone. Rainie cannot just drop things especially when she is certain her brother is trying to contact her. No sooner than Justin reappears in her life, the situation between Justin, Roc, and even the stalker, she took into custody, take on a highflying obstacle course for her. Kathy begins wondering if perhaps there is a mole in the system. Roc seems to jump onto her over every situation making her wonder can she really trust anyone. One thing is certain, things are not what they appear, and Rainie intends on using all her skills to uncover the truth.
Free Falling is an action-packed read that grabbed this reader from the beginning. I love the character of Rainie. She has determination and drive to plunge into any situation head on to get to the truth. The way she is an agent and woman trying to cope with both sides is spun very well. I thought it made her realistic, especially when she knows she must do her job faithfully, as well as stay loyal to Roc, whom she loves more than life. There was a moment with her and Roc, when she felt a loss that my heart went out to her. I kept my fingers crossed throughout most of the story. Rainie is tough, yet tender, and I think that is why I enjoyed this book so much. Mary Eason fashions a wonderful read with in-depth characters, mind-blowing scenes, and lots of suspense to keep the reader glued. I really hope there will be more about these characters, down the road because I hated saying goodbye to them.
