You’re So Vein
Ava Markham is really sick and tired of losing her friends to the paranormal side of life. Fangs, fur, fey, what next? Bigfoot? As a pure human she revels in her humanity. When she’s attacked one night by a psycho with fangs, she crosses over to the very side she abhors. Can she survive and accept what she now is? Maybe she can with a little help from Vladimir Rurikovich, an elite member of the European Council of Vampires.

Vladimir has been sent to America in search of a fugitive from Europe, instead he finds a beguiling human in the throes of her first change. In order to help her he’ll have to go against the rules he’s sworn to uphold. When he finds out who changed her, their lives become more entwined even as they are being torn apart by centuries of tradition.

This is the sixth in The Others series and a very good one at that. I enjoyed watching Ava taken down a peg or two. She always seemed so cold and rude throughout the series, and I honestly thought I’d have a harder time with her story. Christine Warren did a great job making a seemingly heartless character likable and understandable. Vladimir has to be one of my favorite heroes thus far. He had an unwavering strength that remained consistent through the story. Ava and Vladimir completed each other and made for a great ride through the world that Ms. Warren has created. I am really looking forward to more.
