Vietnam 1968
Gwen Marshall is a nurse in one of the medic units in Vietnam. She has been working side by side with Chuck Ouster who is the surgeon in the unit. Gwen is so in love with Chuck that she would do anything for him, until Chuck drops a bombshell. He is returning home to the states and to his wife and children. Gwen is so shocked she walks out after telling Chuck she never wants to see him again. Gwen does not tell Chuck that she going to have his baby. She knows that it will only cause problems.
Forty years later:
Gwen, her daughter, and her granddaughter are shopping when they run into Chuck Ouster. She is surprised to see him after so many years. Chuck tells Gwen that he is going to work at the clinic that she runs. Gwen has her reservations about working with him but is willing to give him a chance. She doesn’t really know if her feelings for Chuck have changed since she last saw him. Then there is her daughter and granddaughter. How will he feel when he finds out that that he has a forty year old daughter?
Chuck Ouster is still in love with Gwen after all these years. He stayed with his wife out of duty and because of his children. When his wife died and the kids grew up he knew it was time to go on with his life. He took the position in Gwen’s clinic.. All he needs to do is convince Gwen that they belonged together. What about his daughter and grandchild? Will they like him? And Gwen… what will she do when she finds out that he knows about his daughter?
Sherry Derr-Willi has written a super book that will bring you to tears. What Did You Do In the War, Grandma? is a very life- like story that will have you feeling that you are experiencing what Gwen and Chuck do. I enjoyed reading this story so much that I couldn’t put it down. Ms. Derr-Willi is a talented author. Her stories leave you wanting more and looking forward to the next release. I love to read Ms. Derr-Willie’s books. They leave me with a feeling like I was part of the book. Ms. Derr-Willi, thank you for a wonderful book and I am looking forward to reading more in the future.
