Slave of Darkness
Adriana Winter is working late when she witnesses a terrible crime, a crime that is going to change her life more than she could possibly imagine. After witnessing the murder of her boss and fleeing the scene, Adriana feels like she is losing her mind. The police inform her that no body was found and there is no evidence that a crime was even committed. They also haven't found her purse, so whoever committed the murder knows who she is and where she lives.
She knows she has to do something to feel safe. Staying with her best friend Brittany works for the time being, but it won't last forever. On the advice of a friend, she goes to visit a man named Gareth - a man who protects people...for a fee. Upon meeting him, she is immediately drawn to his dark good looks, but when he tells her his fee is $50,000, she knows it is out of her reach. He then tells her there is another way - she can become his "slave." She will want for nothing financially and will be protected from whoever is after her. All she has to do is be his submissive. This isn't something she is willing to entertain, until she goes back to her apartment and encounters someone who is intent on killing her and Brittany. It is then she realizes she has no other choice.
Gareth is more than he seems - a vampire with his own enemies and a tainted past. Little does he know, his past is going to return to haunt him as his worst fear is realized. The men after Adriana are twins Victor and Vincent, his enemies from long ago. He knows they will stop at nothing to get her...does he have what it takes to protect her, and his heart?
I admit it. I am a vampire junkie. I enjoy reading books with vampires as the main theme and have ever since I was in school. Something about them has always fascinated me. So, I jumped at the opportunity to review this book. This is the first book by this author that I have read, and I am itching to read anything else she has written. She is descriptive and draws the reader in with the first page.
Gareth, while being dominating, also has a soft side. It doesn't take him long to develop a soft spot in his heart for Adriana, something I love to see happen. Even if the characters are supposed to be a certain stereotype, I appreciate it when an author allows you to see the full range of emotions from their characters, and this is something that Ms. Marble has done extremely well. I felt it was easy to fall into this story and was sad to see it end.
This book offers a little bit of everything: action, drama, romance, paranormal, what more could you ask for? As far as books go, this is a must read!
