Drogan has a dark and sinful past, and the darkness is threatening to claim him. He wants to live his life alone because he knows that the darkness is too much for anyone else to bear. When Drogan meets Serena, his world is tipped on its side. She is so much that he never imagined existed; a witch and a strong woman who does not whine and complain, but faces each challenge head on.

Serena has also chosen a life alone because of the curse on her kind. As hard as Serena tries to deny the attraction she has for Drogan, the sharper that attraction gets. Then they are thrown together in an impossible situation; they must keep a family from being killed by an evil from their past.

Donna Grant has created a magical tale with many twists and turns, holding me captive from the beginning to the end. This story has a lot of suspense, keeping me guessing at each turn, just to be surprised all over again. The plot is well thought out and complex and written as any good beginning of a series should be. There are just as many questions left unanswered in this first book as are answered. I also enjoyed the characters of this book. The main characters are strong and well-developed, and the secondary characters are just as likeable and complement the story so well.

Drogan is a good man who has done many things that he now regrets. He knows that his past has left him with too much darkness and that he is in danger of succumbing to that darkness. It seems that he does not care about much, until he meets Serena. She breathes a life into him that has been missing for a very long time and gives him hope for his future.

Serena is a witch and a very admirable woman. Because she is a witch, she faces many hardships that most others do not, but that does not stop her from forging ahead to make the most of her life. She is also selfless, prepared to give her life for her friends and for Drogan. She makes a perfect match for Drogan.

I am very much looking forward to reading the second book of this series and I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast paced and suspenseful erotic paranormal story.
