Bite my Fire
Elena O'Rourke only wants two things in life: to follow in her father's footsteps and to get laid, both seem like attainable goals. But, the solution to one is getting in the way of the other. Getting her detective's shield all depends on her solving a murder. Bo Strongwell, a walking, talking billboard for "take me NOW" is a fine answer to the getting laid portion of her goals. Unfortunately he's right in the middle of her murder investigation, and Elena needs him to put out and shut up. Bo is determined that this murder not be falsely pinned on one of his kind and doesn't need Elena and her inept partner, Dirk, snooping around his building. Can Elena solve this case before it's too late or will the Case of the Punctured Prick screw up her career before it even gets started?

I'm hoping that no one saw me running around screaming when I opened my inbox and saw my reviewer's copy of Bite My Fire. It was with eager anticipation that I loaded my ereader and prepared to read, and read, and read.... I couldn't put this story down. Just as in Biting Nixie, it is filled with zingers that had me giggling. I love the sense of humor that is present in every word that fills the page. In the first book of the series I found Nixie hilarious and was a bit disappointed to learn that she wouldn't be the main focus of the second book. I should have trusted my first assessment of Ms. Hughes' talent and never doubted that I would enjoy this installment. I might even have enjoyed it a bit more than Biting Nixie. Meiers Corners is somewhere that I would love to live! The people are just perfect in their imperfections. As for the main characters, Elena is awesome. She reminds me so much of my best friend that I had to call her and read bits and pieces of the dialog for us to giggle over together. I loved her! Bo is...well Bo. Distracting, mysterious, and oh so hot! As I noted in my review of Biting Nixie Ms. Hughes has a way with names. Names that so often give insight into the character, sometimes names that just make you giggle. For example Dirk Ruffles is hilarious to me because one of the meanings of Dirk is sharp dagger. Dirk is definitely not the sharpest person. Then it's coupled with the surname Ruffles which can mean a disturbance or annoyance and that is perfect for Dirk. He's a walking contradiction right down to his name! Now, I have no idea if it's just my warped sense of humor reading more into things than is there, but it makes me happy. I cannot wait for the next story!
