Wedding Bell Blues
Lawyer, brother to the groom and best man, Pete Toleffson is not impressed with the town of Konigsburg, Texas. It's hot, he's worried about what he's missing at work and all of these happy people getting ready for a wedding are on his last nerve. Getting to know the maid of honor, Janie Dupree, is something that he is enjoying doing. She is gorgeous, nice and he is coming to realize that when he leaves Texas she will leave a hole the size of the state in his heart.
Janie is, possibly, the nicest woman in town. She is always the designated driver, will help anyone who needs it and is determined that these two friends of hers will have the best wedding in the world. She is a bit bothered by the fact that the best man isn't taking his responsibilities seriously. As she gets to know him she discovers that taking responsibilities for the wedding may not be his strong suit but there are other things about him that she does like: his kisses, his messages and the way he makes her feel when she opens her eyes in the morning. She knows that he has to return to his job in Iowa, but he will take a large part of her heart with him.
Meg Benjamin has written one of the best books that I've ever read. It's full of romance, a wedding, people that you want to kill and people that you want to get to know better. It is nice to see Cal and Docia, from the book Venus and Blue Jeans, wedding come together as Pete and Janie explore their feelings for each other. The romance was nice, but it was the story and the way the author brought everyone into the wedding preparations that made the story for this reader. The fact that the story was so real and I could imagine my friends having these same problems was an added bonus. From reading this author's website, there are two more published stories that go with this series, and one due out in December and I plan to read all of them. This author did a tremendous job of making sure that all of the secondary characters played an important part in this story, in doing so she gave just enough information to make me curious about their life and I can't wait to read the rest of their stories.
