Jeff Chandler has just transferred from Seattle PD to the LAPD, and Mickey Stanton has been crazy for him ever since. Working as partners, they find out they both want each other bad. They begin a passionate love affair, while trying to keep everything a secret at work. Everything starts to take a toll on them, and when Mickey wants more of a commitment, Jeff is scared to be hurt again.

Top Men is a roller coaster ride of a romance. Jeff and Mickey are intense in everything they do, whether it's love making or fighting, and they do a lot of both. It is obvious they both care about each other, and Jeff's fear of commitment is a big hurdle in their life. If they aren't sleeping, they are either fighting, having sex, or most likely doing both. By the end of the story it got to be tiring, and I found myself sighing over all the drama. It is almost a surprise that they have a happy ending, since it was such a rough road leading up to it. I also question the sanity of both characters a few times. With threats and physical violence between them, I was shaking my head at times. Some of the things that Jeff and Mickey do to each other would be considered abuse if they were a man and a woman, and I found it hard to be okay with that. Top Men is the third in G.A. Hauser's Heroes series. The couples form the first two show up, and they steal the show, in more than one way. There is no doubt that G. A. Hauser knows how to write steamy scenes. The emotions were what I felt was lacking. I suppose it is because they are tough LA cops, but I would have liked to have seen more tender moments between the two.
