A Love Neverending
As a nightclub owner, Clarissa has her pick of handsome men. But looks are less important to her than the promise in their eyes. She chooses men with certain characteristics: twin dimples, a penchant for violence, and self-control that's perhaps a little too loose. When she's with one of these men, she wants them to use her and abuse her, to make her forget about Jason, the lover she lost. She finds release through rough sex, but when it's over, she feels more alone than ever. Little does she know that her long-lost lover watches her, trapped in his ghostly form, cursed to bear witness as Clarissa gives her body away to strangers night after night. When an encounter with a Dark Angel blurs the veil between life and death, will Clarissa and Jason be reunited forever, or will they lose their only chance to be together, once and for all?

A Love Neverending is one of the most touching, emotionally raw books I've read in a long time. It deals with very difficult subjects, such as abuse, suicide and religion, just to name a few. But therein lies its appeal. Ms. Larke is not afraid to tackle some very controversial topics, and she does it with such finesse. Clarissa is the kind of heroine who will break your heart, while Jason's terrible plight is likely to wring a few tears from even the most reserved reader. While the plot doesn't move along at breakneck speeds, the slower pace works well for this story. The prose has a lyrical, almost melodic fluidity to it that enthralls from the first page. A Love Neverending is not for sensitive readers. However, those who prefer their romance on the gritty side will be delighted with this book.
