Prime Evil
Chance Monroe is a hereditary hedge witch, which means she has a deep connection to the earth, the duty to protect earth's plants and creatures (mythical or not), and the ability to see "memories" from the earth. A few years ago a serial killer, Randall Oakes, targeted Chance and left her for dead, but she managed to survive and has rebuilt her life especially after the reported death of Oakes. Unfortunately, Oakes may not be dead, and Chance's former boy friend Jack, an FBI agent, is back in town to keep Chance safe and find the killer. Jack's inability to believe in Chance's supernatural connection to the earth is part of why their relationship ended the last time, but this time those same abilities may be the key to catching Oakes. Can Jack wrap his mind around something he can't see or touch and learn to believe in Chance and stop Oakes? Or will Jack's doubts leave just the opening Oakes needs to get to Chance?
Prime Evil is a very good thriller/romantic suspense story with an unusual paranormal twist. Chance's unique abilities are very intriguing, and I found the idea of what she could do with nature fascinating. Chance's down to earth and charming personality also drew me into the story from the beginning. Jack was also a great character, who is loyal and caring even though he find's what Chance says she can do outside of his understanding. But it is Randall Oakes and the evil plot he has in mind for Chance and other "talented" witches that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. And best of all just when I thought I had the ending figured out there is a marvelous plot twist that was so creative I loved it! I would love to read another story like this either with Chance and Jack or about some of the wonderful secondary characters that also appeared in this story. If you like paranormal thrillers with unusual abilities and really evil bad guys, you will love this book!
