Crossed Wires
Mina is a single parent working for an insurance call center. Normally, the people she talks to on a daily basis are angry and frustrated, but a call from Dr. Peter Kendrick leaves her with the impression of a nice, pleasant and slightly embarrassed man who had called to make a claim after running into a tree stump. Mina is disappointed when he mentions his daughters thinking there must be a Mrs. Peter Kendrick.
Peter is a single parent of twin daughters who teaches at the college. After speaking to Mina on the phone about his claim, he wishes he gotten more than her first name, but trying to keep up with twin nine year old girls and everything that goes with keeping up a household, he quickly puts Mina out of his mind. Until he has to call back to make another claim and asks for Mina personally.
After the second claim Mina does a little digging and discovers that Peter's wife is deceased. She decides to give him a call back to let him know about his no claims bonus, and as they talk they discover they have a lot in common. Could a friendship born out of sharing parenting woes turn into love?
Crossed Wires is a fun heart-warming tale of family, friendship and love. Peter and Mina are well written characters that are not only separated by distance but by lifestyles as well. Ms. Thornton has done a great job in exploring the relationship between Peter and Mina and of all the characters in the book from Peter's research assistant to Mina's sister. I do have to say that I had problems understanding some of the slang used in this story and would have liked to have had more of a solid ending. But overall I thought Crossed Wires was a warm, heartfelt tale that is sure to please readers who aren't looking for a cut and dry happily ever after ending.
