Raising Kane
Ginger Paulson isn't used to asking for help. From anyone. But the choice is taken from her hands when she slips on a patch of ice outside work and lands in the hospital. Kane McKay steps in to take care of her, her wheelchair bound father and her young son. Kane's been a Little Buddies mentor to her son, so that means no fraternizing with her mother. He tells himself he's only offering platonic services to the feisty redhead, never mind the kiss they shared months ago.
But when she tells him she's interested in much more than his nursing duties, he demands her complete intimate submission. Then the stakes are raised infinitely higher when mutual sexual pleasure turns into a desire for a whole lot more.
Although Raising Kane is book nine in Lorelei James' Rough Riders series, it can be read easily as a standalone, which is what happened with me. Not usually into cowboy stories, I'd heard the series had BDSM elements and opted to give its latest story a try. I'm sure glad I did.
Ginger is a smart, funny, somewhat intimidating attorney that refuses to show her vulnerability to anyone. She is the epitome of self-sufficient women everywhere. That's what makes Kane so attractive to her. He not only isn't intimidated by her, he's willing to assert his own dominance to prove it. He does have his own insecurities, but by the large he's willing to overcome those to show Ginger his worth. Ginger, although incredibly intelligent, isn't put off by his lack of post-grad education, but instead is attracted by his fierce loyalty, his kind heart and his delicious, Alpha male sexuality.
Other characters from previous books make their appearances making me at once wish I'd discovered this series sooner, and have me rushing to purchase previous installments. I've eight other stories to read to catch up, but if Raising Kane is any indication, this is a series worth delving into for great plot, in depth characters and some smokin' hot lovin'.
