Faces
Young Danny Boy comes from a less than perfect family. His mother was afraid of his father. His father could instill fear into anyone. There was one person that Big Dan was afraid of and that is the mob. Before Danny Boy's fourteenth birthday, Big Dan splits. A couple of mobster thugs come to the house looking for him. No matter how much Danny Boy disliked his father, he lets no one push his family around. Danny Boy roughs the thugs up.

Now that Big Dan is out of the picture, Danny Boy is the head of the household. Danny Boy quickly grows up and becomes the meanest, toughest, naughtiest leader of the Faces. Soon everyone is heeding Danny Boy's commands, including his family. Danny Boy kills with no remorse.

In actuality I did not know what to expect from this book. The end result was a gripping, gangster novel that did not hold back in any way. I both felt for Danny Boy and despised him at the same time. I could understand that Danny Boy got his anger from his father but at the same time, Danny Boy was worse than his father. Though, there were only two choices back then...either make the rules or live by them. Warning: there is a lot of violence and cussing in this book. This did not affect me as it was part of the story and part of the characters. Martina Cole is a new face on my author list.
