A Wife for Christmas
Dusty Lucas is a strictly by-the-book CPA who ferrets out corporate financial discrepancies. Widowed for over four years he has two first graders who act more grown-up than most adults. He knows it's time to fulfill his dying wife's request that he find a mother for their children but doesn't seem to be having any luck with his quest.
Mandy McKenzie is a substitute teacher who finds herself face-to-face with the seemingly heartless Mr. Lucas when he accuses her recently deceased father of embezzling two-hundred thousand dollars in company funds. Mandy can't believe her beloved father would do such a despicable thing and scrambles to find a way to clear his reputation.
Dusty's children just happen to be in Mandy's classroom and she's baffled by their extreme politeness and too mature behavior. She decides what these children need are a loving hand and a chance to act their age. When his kids invite her to dinner she reluctantly accepts. One look at how Mandy interacts with his son and daughter and Dusty decides she just might be The One he's been searching for.
A Wife for Christmas is a story filled with fairly predictable twists and turns. I felt the coarse language and phrases were out of character for a straight-laced CPA and grade school teacher. With her father's reputation hanging in the balance I seriously doubt she would be harboring feelings of love toward his primary accuser. Dakota Carson's plot was so fantastical I just couldn't buy in to the whole concept even knowing it was a work of fiction. Three Angels.
