A Hundred Fires
Angel Marquez Cienfuegos is a hero in Cuba, and in the United States where he defected in order to have a professional boxing career, his star is rising. He's used to preferential treatment, getting whatever he wants. What he wants is Cristiano, his former lover, but Cristiano is now happily involved with Alex Hunter, a pro hockey player, and Angel is left with his feelings of loss. Sure they are still great friends but seeing Cristiano with Alex leaves Angel feeling more alone than ever. Until Derik Grasser, a hockey player and friend of Alex and Cristiano, appears on the scene and then Angel only feels fire!

In this second collaboration between two great authors we revisit the characters from Fire and Ice, only this time the focus is on Angel and Derik. I wasn't sure how I was going to like A Hundred Fires, to be perfectly honest. Angel was not a favorite of mine when he was introduced in Fire and Ice, I thought he was a bit of a...ah, tool, if you must know the truth. Thankfully, and the benedictions fall solely at the feet of the authors, I loved Angel by the time A Hundred Fires was over. The further the readers were allowed to delve into the reasoning behind Angel's actions the more sympathetic he became as a character. By the time Derik entered the picture I was well on my way to liking Angel but the heat that was generated between the two had me quickly falling in love with both of them. A Hundred Fires is a very apt name for a book that will leave you exhausted from putting out all the little fires it starts every time things heat up between the characters. I hope that we get to revisit these wonderful characters again and again!
