Rat has been rejected and shunned so many times by his fellow shifters that he has long since resigned himself to the fact. So much so that he has developed an abrasive personality in order to protect himself from the hurt. There are only a few people that have gotten beneath this hard exterior and Rat will do everything in his power to protect them. When Rat receives a call from a lost shifter, one that is important to his leader, Rat goes to rescue the man.

Rat expects the rescue to be difficult but is not prepared for the instantaneous attraction he feels. An attraction that is returned and in a moment of weakness acted upon. Now Rat will have to decide - does he continue to live his solitary life or does he take the chance that this newfound relationship offers and embrace it?

Ms. Hecht is a relatively recent find for me and I am loving every second I get to spend with her creations. Savage Awakenings is exactly what I've come to expect from this author. A lovely plot, wonderful characters, and a lyrical style of writing that gave the story a full-bodied voice that mesmerized me from the opening line. Rat interested me from the first moment I met him in another story and I was thrilled to find he had a story all his own. I wanted to know what drove him to be as he was and we are given that chance with Savage Awakenings. I just knew there was so much more underneath that bristly veneer and couldn't wait to crack it! I was immediately hooked on this series and would love to visit it again. Ms. Hecht has built an intricate world full of intriguing characters that you can't help but fall in love with the more time you are around them.
