Love in the Afternoon
Ratings: 4 Angels
Captain Christopher Phelan has received a string of letters from Prudence Mercer. Due to these letters, he has fallen in love with her. With Prudence's permission, Beatrix Hathaway has been writing to Christopher in her stead. This sets up a troublesome scenario as Christopher is in love with the author of the letters.

Ms. Kleypas has written another winning story. We have encountered Beatrix in the previous books in this series but this is the reader's chance to get into her head. Beatrix is a delightful heroine. She loves animals and has a way with them. She is an "original" and so very likable. How can you not love a character that is so empathetic and caring? Christopher is also a very likable man. He is everything you could want for Beatrix. Of course, the road to happiness is not smooth and the bumps encountered by this couple makes them stronger. There is no doubt that these two characters work as a couple. There is romance, humor and yes, a definite sexual chemistry that blooms as the story progresses. It is a treat to watch the story unfold and readers will definitely root for them.

I believe this is the fifth book in the Hathaways series and yes, you do get glimpses of the other family members. It is always a treat to see how the other couples are doing after the last page of their book is finished. This was a thoroughly enjoyable story and a perfect summer read.
