Patrimony
Patrimony by Glyn Soitino is a homoerotic paranormal short story.
Mathew has finally returned home after so many years. Mathew's mother took him away when he was a child telling him it was safer for them to leave without telling anyone where they were going. Now he has returned after his father's death for the reading of the will and he can't wait to return to Paris. One of the first people he sees is his best friend from childhood, Jack. He remembers the kiss they almost shared years ago and has never forgotten how he felt; no man has ever measured up. Mathew learns that there are specifications in the will that add responsibilities he never expected. Also, there is something strange going on with the town, but Jack says he will tell him after he settles in. Mathew overhears things said by Jack that doesn't add up. What is going on and how will Mathew react when he learns the truth?
Ms. Soitino has written a well balanced and creative short story. As Mathew's story unfolded I felt sorry about how he felt when he learned the truth about his past. It was sad how Mathew's brother, Joel, was basically ignored by their father even after everything he did to get his attention. Mathew's feelings for Jack had never changed, but he may not be able to accept the truth about Jack. Jack was happy about Mathew's return, but he was also worried about what would happen if Mathew found out the truth. I loved how Mathew was able to look beyond their differences to see Jack for the loving and caring man that he is. Thanks go to Ms. Soitino for a great read.
