The Alpha's Pet
The Alpha's Pet by Louisa Gough is a homoerotic paranormal story.
Blue has lived on the fringes of the wolf pack ever since he was found and added to the pack by their alpha Rafe. Blue as an omega isn't looked upon as a full member of the pack, but that hasn't bothered him until today. Rafe has brought a new member as his personal pet, Gabriel, and Blue is enamored from the moment he first saw him, but Blue knows he will never get a chance to have him. Blue is shocked when Gabriel approaches him. Gabriel feels the same way as Blue, but as a newly changed wolf he doesn't know about the way pack politics works. When Rafe shows Gabriel's submission in front of the entire clan Blue is forced by two of the betas, one named James who has always treated Blue badly.
Rafe has to go to a meeting and asks Blue to take care of Gabriel and tells them that they are to be left alone for the day. Blue knows that Rafe trusts him and he controls his feelings in spite of Gabriel feeling the same about him. When James arrived, he demands Blue submit to him, Blue fights to protect Gabriel and keep him safe as he promised Rafe he would. Rafe arrives in time to see Blue fighting to protect Gabriel and he realizes that this is the first time that Blue has ever fought for something. Will Blue and Gabriel have a chance to explore their feelings for each other? Will James make good on the threatening look he gave to Blue?
Ms. Gough has created a fast paced story with characters that come to life for the reader. Blue is a fascinating character that was willing to put up with being almost a pack outcast until he found something or someone worth fighting for. Rafe at first glance appears to be a control freak until his father-like attitude towards Blue encourages him to reach for his dreams. James reminds me of the school bully who won't ever change until he is forced to behave. The growing love between Gabriel and Blue was beautiful to behold as they are willing to protect each other and not count the cost. The story may not be a long story, but it is concise with good character development. Thanks go to Ms. Gough for a great story.
