Wolf Town
Wolf Town by Joely Skye is a homoerotic paranormal story.

Rory has the task of following and protecting Scott Lund, a minder who is in hiding. A minder is someone who has psychic powers and can mentally push people to do their will. Scott ran from his people because he didn't want to use his powers to hurt anyone and he has continued to run ever since, leaving him without anyone to lean on. Rory knows that minders can be more than they seem, but Scott acts so defeated that Rory can't see how it is good for him to be alone. Rory is a wolf shape-shifter and his pack is everything to them. Rory strikes up a conversation with Scott and he talks about going to High Park. Scott uses his ability to insure that all they will do is walk. Rory recognizes that Scott is using his abilities for protection because they don't work on wolves. Scott needs to have contact with Rory, but he is afraid of the consequences to not only himself, but Rory too. Scott decides to spend the evening, but unknowingly falls asleep after the most perfect night of passion and closeness he ever experienced. Scott slipped away to return alone and heart broken for what he could never have. Scott was woken up to find the other minders had finally found him, but before they could get away Rory arrived and saved Scott. Will Scott finally find someone to love and a place to call home? Will Rory get a chance to explore his feelings for Scott?

Ms. Skye's story Wolf Town is both riveting and unique. I loved watching as Rory went against what he knew to be true about minders and followed his instincts about Scott. It was terrible to watch Scott look so defeated and alone as he struggled to keep ahead to the minders who were tracking him. His desire to keep other people away to protect them was noble, but the cost to him was enormous. The paranormal abilities of minders was incredible to watch as they bent people, even other minders, to their will, but unfortunately other minders, unlike Scott, don't seem to have reservations about hurting people. I loved how Rory's father Angus, as alpha, uses his abilities to insure the safety of his pack. One wolf, Aileen, reminds me a wounded animal who wants to be loved, but who is afraid to be hurt. I loved how as the story unfolded the lives of Scott and Rory come alive for the reader. Ms. Skye is a master at writing paranormal stories with the perfect combination of the paranormal in a contemporary type setting. I look forward to reading more books by Ms. Skye.
