Bring Me Home for Christmas
Bring Me Home for Christmas is part of the Virgin River series.
Becca Timm is having serious doubts about her relationship with Mr. Perfect, chief among them being her odd fixation on her ex-boyfriend, Denny. When an opportunity comes up to reencounter Denny in the unlikely guise of a duck hunting and salmon fishing trip with her brother, who served with Denny in Afghanistan, she jumps at the chance. Becca has no idea that fate has interesting plans for her, and when she is injured and needs to remain in Virgin River to recuperate, it is Denny upon whom she relies to care for her...and she finds herself falling back into love with him.
Denny Cutler knows that he screwed up when he broke Becca's heart. His only excuse was that he was suffering from the death of his mother and searching for a purpose in life. He found his place in Virgin River, complete with people who need him, gainful employment, and self-respect. The only thing his life is missing is Becca, who turned him down flat when he suggested reuniting a few years back. Now, she shows up injured, making it hard for Denny to remember why he ever left her in the first place.
In Bring Me Home for Christmas, Robyn Carr continues her wonderful series about the tightly knit community of Virgin River and its inhabitants. Becca and Denny are characters who tried and failed at forever before, but who, once they get past their hurt feelings and emotional baggage, are willing to try again. The relationship between them is carefully crafted and the author builds up their relationship subtly and skillfully. I especially enjoyed the secondary storyline about Becca's struggles with meeting her mother's expectations and the glimpses we get of the abiding sense of family that is Virgin River. Many familiar faces from the earlier books of this series make appearances, making me feel like I've just visited dearly treasures friends. Ms. Carr has created something really special in this series, and her consistently excellent books are a must-read for me. Five Angels!
